Dates with History: Haslar Heritage Days 2024

22nd August 2024

The Haslar Heritage Group will once again be sharing their in-depth knowledge and passion for all things Royal Haslar with a weekend of guided tours at the site over 6th, 7th and 8th September.  The tours form part of this year’s Gosport Heritage Open Days programme, which provides a full programme of events for all the family between 6th and 15th September.

You can join Haslar Heritage Group with a choice of two 120-minute tours a day, taking place on all three days, beginning at 10am and 2pm, and starting and finishing at St Luke’s Church. It’s a chance to delve deep into Royal Haslar’s fascinating history, to learn about its role as the first naval hospital in the country, which between 1753 and 2009 cared for countless casualties, from the War of the Spanish Succession to the recent wars in Afghanistan.

Guides from the Group – who since 2011 have shown over 9,000 visitors from all over the world round the grounds – will point out unique architectural details, provide an insight into the illustrious men and women who have worked and been treated here over the centuries, and explain the future role of this special heritage site as a residential community. The Shore Leave Memorial Garden will also be open to all, offering cake, tea and craft stalls.
